Our study Abroad Students Visit Valencia

This spring semester, fifty students from Endicott College, our academic partner in the USA, are participating in a study abroad program at CIS University. They are spending a semester in Madrid, taking various courses for their degrees. On Fridays, after classes, they travel to different places to learn more about Spain and its culture.

During their recent field trip, the students spent a couple of days in Valencia, where they enjoyed a delicious “paella Valenciana” near the Malvarrosa beach and visited many of the beautiful historical sites that this Mediterranean city has to offer.

On their first day, the students explored City Hall Square, the Central Market, and took a tour of the “Lonja de la Seda,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site that used to be the main financial center of the silk industry in Valencia during the 14th and 15th centuries. Afterward, they visited the stunning Church of San Nicolás, the Miguelete Tower, and the Almoina Archaeological Center, which preserves the first settlement in what is now the city of Valencia, founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago.

On their second day, they visited the “Museo Fallero,” where they saw hundreds of “ninots” that were spared from being burned. Finally, they explored the Aquarium and the Science Museum in the “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias,” designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

These were two very intense days that the students will never forget!
