CIS University Meet your International classmates

Meet your International classmates

It is a well-known fact that CIS University is home to a highly international student community. The numbers also speak for themselves: this semester 40% of our students are coming from abroad and currently our university has students from 32 different countries in 6 of the 7 continents!

CIS University students Itay Avital, David Lopez, Mauro Merino, Juan Cabrera, and Catalina Zanetty spoke with their peers to understand better in what ways does the unique intercultural environment at CIS University support their progress and growth.

“It’s very diverse, lots of Europeans, people from Latin America, Americans, a bit of everything. CIS University has a really nice university atmosphere due to its diversity” — pointed out student Jacobo Schoffer who was born in Venezuela, but raised in Panama. “The university has a strong international presence, with students from all over the world. This has given me the opportunity to learn about different cultures and perspectives, and to practice my language skills” — said Evan Maurice, a student from France.

Cameron Ndongo, who is from Equatorial Guinea, stressed that not only fellow students can benefit from the international environment of CIS University, but everyone: “From the professors, passing through the deans and staff working there, until the students — we are all surrounded by a rich environment where someone has something different to teach the other, and you always learn something new from a culture or a country you didn’t know before, so it makes the time spent here so enjoyable” — the student told.

Moving to a new country can also represent challenges. “People are very warm and welcoming although it is very different from where I come from. I notice many cultural differences and I am still learning to adapt to them but nonetheless I look forward to continuing my studies here” — explained student Sandra Karena Torres who was born and raised in the US. CIS University is also making the transition for its international students as smooth as possible. “The university has outstanding resources and assistance for its foreign students. The institution offered all the tools required for a seamless adjustment to a new nation, from the orientation program to the language lessons” — said Chloé Cantarini from France.

Many students emphasized how their fascination with Madrid made it easier for them to adjust too: “I have found it to be a very vibrant and exciting city. There is always something happening, whether it’s a cultural festival, a concert, or a sporting event. I have enjoyed exploring the various neighborhoods and trying different restaurants, cafes, and bars. The food scene in Madrid is fantastic, and I have had the opportunity to try some amazing Spanish dishes like paella, jamón ibérico, and tortilla española. I have also enjoyed visiting museums and art galleries, such as the Prado Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum” —  explained Evan Maurice.

Chloé Cantarini said that she would recommend to future students the unique “CIS University experience” without hesitation: “I would unquestionably advise other foreign students to study abroad in Madrid and at CIS University. The institution provides top-notch academic offerings, a supportive faculty, and an active student body. On the other hand, Madrid is a city that never sleeps and offers opportunity.”
