Each study interval or pomodoro is followed by a short break, typically 5 minutes, which allows the brain to recover and maintain a high concentration level during the next interval. This way, you are guaranteed two high-intensity blocks per hour of study.

How to Apply the Pomodoro Method to Your Study Routine

To apply this methodology in your study routine and enjoy all its benefits, simply follow these steps:

1 – Prepare Your Space

Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need within reach. Your study space should be free of distractions, and all your study materials should be readily accessible.

2 – Set Your Goals

Clearly define the task you are going to tackle during the study session. Remember that each pomodoro is like a small assignment, so be specific about what you want to accomplish in each one.

3 – Set The Timer

Decide on the length of each pomodoro. Traditionally, pomodoros last 25 minutes, but you can adjust the timing based on your ability to concentrate. Use a watch, phone, or even YouTube videos designed with study and pause intervals.

4 – Work with Intensity

During each pomodoro, immerse yourself fully in the task at hand. Avoid distractions and stay focused. If something comes up, write it down and deal with it later.

5 – Enjoy Your Break 

When the timer goes off, take a 5-minute break. Stretch, hydrate, and unwind. Think of it as a small reward for the work you’ve completed.

6 – Repeat the Previous Steps

Repeat steps 4 and 5 three times, and then take a longer break (15-30 minutes). This cycle of work and rest is what makes the Pomodoro method effective, so stick to the routine.

7 – Evaluate and Adjust

After each study session, take a moment to evaluate your progress. Did you achieve your goals? Were there any recurring distractions? Reflecting on these questions will help you refine your timing and continue improving your technique.
