Cruzada por los Niños, the NGO founded by CIS University and chaired by María Díaz de la Cebosa, sponsored the presentation of the book “Nunca Estuviste Aquí” (You Were Never Here), the deeply emotional work of photographer Pedro Díaz del Castillo. The event took place in the modern Hub space of Casa Club de Madrid and gathered an audience of parents, students and collaborators, among them Javier García, CEO of Asterius VC, who co-financed the project. Attendees were also able to enjoy an exhibition of the moving images that illustrate the book.
“Nunca Estuviste Aquí” (You Were Never Here) addresses the complex experience of migrants, who often find themselves stuck somewhere between two worlds. The book’s narrative highlights the denial of belonging that many migrants feel upon arriving in a new place, while at the same time attempting to preserve a connection to the home they left behind. This duality shines through in the pages of the book through evocative photographs that capture the essence of people who do not normally pose in front of a camera in this way.
The author, Pedro Díaz del Castillo, passionately portrays how during their journey immigrants often leave fragments of themselves behind therefore experiencing a feeling of incompleteness while in their new destinations. The work laments the invisibility experienced by many immigrants, who to an unfortunate degree become shadows wandering the streets at times, subtly ignored by those around them.
The NGO Cruzada Por los Niños (Crusade for Children) has worked tirelessly since 1995 to provide support and protection to children and young people around the world. The NGO also leads initiatives to defend the rights of women in disadvantaged areas, promoting comprehensive education without discrimination in Africa.
With this event, Cruzada Por Los Niños once again reinforces its commitment to social sensitivity and justice, seeking not only to attract photography lovers but also to generate a space for reflection on the reality of migrants today. All funds coming from the sale of the book and the photographs exhibited during the event will go directly to the NGO’s international social initiatives.
