Students and professors from the CIS University Investment Club visited the wealth management firm Orienta Wealth as part of the university’s off-campus educational activities. The visit, coordinated by the club’s president, Professor Ricardo Estellés, was intended to give students firsthand insight into how a top-tier independent financial advisory firm operates.
The session was jointly led by Manuel Sanchís and Jaime Porras, partners and co-founders of the firm, who delivered a clear and direct presentation on Orienta Wealth’s business model. The firm currently manages more than €7.5 billion in assets and operates in Spain’s biggest cities. Its strategy is built on independence, fee transparency, and access to a wide range of advanced financial products such as Private Equity and Private Debt, designed for sophisticated investors.
The partners emphasized the importance of truly understanding their clients, identifying their real risk profile, and knowing how to read between the lines to tailor precise portfolios. They also addressed the growing importance of geopolitics in economic analysis, particularly following the recent trade war. In the words of Managing Partner Jaime Porras: “You must really know your client. This is a business based on trust. And trust is built slowly, but can be lost in an instant.”
The session also highlighted the need for strong knowledge in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and international affairs, as well as the ability to translate financial language into client-friendly terms, reaffirming the added value of a specialized and seasoned professional.
At the end of the visit, students asked questions about client profiling, career opportunities in the sector, and compensation models. As a token of appreciation, the hosts were presented with the Club’s commemorative mug.
The visit to Orienta Wealth proved to be a highly valuable educational experience for the club’s members, who were able to contrast classroom theory with the real-world dynamics of financial advisory, strengthening their own preparation for a future career in the investment sector.
Partner Manuel Sanchís closed the meeting with a message of appreciation for the students: “It was truly a pleasure, I assure you. It’s refreshing to feel a breath of fresh air and see young people so eager to learn.” He also praised the club’s approach: “Congratulations on the Investment Club initiative. I believe it’s extremely valuable to take students out of the classroom and connect them with the real business world. Once again, great work.”
