María Domingo is a second-year Business student at CIS University who is currently doing her internship at El Armario de Madrid, a small fashion brand known for their elegant coats and modern aesthetics. In this interview, she shares how her studies and personal interests have shaped her experience as a student and intern in Madrid.
What made you choose to study Business at CIS University?
My parents and my family have always inspired me because they run their own company, so I grew up surrounded by that environment. I’ve always liked the idea of creating something of my own. I also really enjoy numbers and analyzing things, so Business just makes sense for me. In the future, I’d like to have my own company too.
How did you decide to do your internship at El Armario de Madrid?
I heard about it from some other girls at CIS University who had done their internships there before. When I looked into it, I thought it was a great opportunity to learn about how a business works in the fashion world.
What’s a normal day like during your internship?
We usually go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 7:30 and Fridays from 12:00 to 4:00. Every day is a bit different, but we help in the store, organize clothes, and make sure everything looks good. Most of the time, we create content for social media. We film videos, take photos, and help prepare posts for Instagram and TikTok.
Do you feel that what you learn in class connects with what you are doing at the internship?
Yes, definitely. A lot of the things I see during the internship make more sense because of what I learn in class. For example, how businesses build a strategy, think about customers, or manage their finances. It helps me connect theory with real life.
What is your favorite part about being a student at CIS?
I really like the environment. It feels very international and personal at the same time. You get to meet people from all over the world, but the classes are small enough that you really get to know your professors. It makes studying more dynamic and interactive, especially when we work on group projects.
What is your favorite class, and how does it connect to your internship?
I really like my Business Management class because it explains how companies organize their teams, set goals, and make decisions. It helps me understand how a brand like El Armario de Madrid operates and what it takes to run a business successfully.
What skills do you think you have developed the most since starting university?
I think communication and organization. Before, I was more closed off, but at CIS University and in the internship, I’ve learned to talk to people, share ideas, and manage my time better. Balancing both things really teaches you responsibility.
How do you balance your time between your university work and your internship?
It’s not always easy, but I try to plan my week in advance. Since I know my internship schedule, I usually do my assignments earlier or during the weekend. The key is not to leave everything for the last minute.
What are your goals after finishing your degree at CIS University?
I’d like to work for a company where I can apply what I’ve learned in Business, maybe something related to management or entrepreneurship. Eventually, I’d love to start something of my own, but first I want to gain more experience and learn how bigger companies operate.
What does success mean to you at this point in your life?
For me, success means being happy with what you’re doing and learning as much as you can along the way. I want to feel proud of my growth and the effort I put in every day.
