The lecture focused on how writing and technology interact with each other, demanding new critical approaches and a new approach in which the boundaries between the two disciplines fade away.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking as a starting point the story <\/span><b><i>\u201cThe Library of Babel\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Jorge Luis Borges, Dr. Porras proposed to review the literary classics with a contemporary perspective to find answers to the problems of our time. In this way, the famous infinite library could be reinterpreted as an allegory of the internet and the expansion of big data, while other Borgesian texts (<\/span><b><i>\u201cFunes the Memorious\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b><i>\u201cThe Aleph\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) were analyzed concerning current debates about algorithms, virtual reality, and the resurgence of Luddism.<\/span><\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38307\" title=\"CIS University Lecture The Role of Literature in the Digital Age 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cis-spain.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/01\/CIS-University-Lecture_-The-Role-of-Literature-in-the-Digital-Age-2.jpg\" alt=\"CIS University Lecture The Role of Literature in the Digital Age 2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cis-spain.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/01\/CIS-University-Lecture_-The-Role-of-Literature-in-the-Digital-Age-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cis-spain.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/01\/CIS-University-Lecture_-The-Role-of-Literature-in-the-Digital-Age-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cis-spain.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/01\/CIS-University-Lecture_-The-Role-of-Literature-in-the-Digital-Age-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p><p><b>Is digital technology changing what we understand by Literature?<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second part of the conference addressed a different question: <\/span><b>What exactly constitutes \u201cliterature\u201d today<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially considering that 43% of millennials and Generation Z do not identify as readers? The speaker argued that this data points to a terminological problem. Reading habits are changing, and existing definitions of literature need to be revised to include new language-based formats such as audiobooks, graphic novels, song lyrics\u2026<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And of course, video games too. Since their origins in the late 1950s, two main types have coexisted: action games and adventure games. Dr. Porras argues that the latter can be considered an interactive form of literature, as they are based on expression through words, from the earliest text adventures to the point-and-click genre popularized in the 1990s. His argument extends to more recent examples, generally labeled as \u201cindie\u201d or \u201cnarrative-rich\u201d games, such as <\/span><b>The Stanley Parable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>The Beginner\u2019s Guide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><b>Firewatch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
