The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation (RFKHR), together with the Fundación International Studies, presented, for the first in Madrid, the Program “Speak Truth to Power”
Last Wednesday, April 29, and for the first time in Madrid, the Fundación International Studies together with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation, and with the collaboration of the Consejo Escolar de la Comunidad de Madrid and the university CIS – The College for International Studies, presented the program “Speak Truth to Power,” The value of Human Rights in Education.
Ms. Karen Robinson, director of Education and Human Rights Formation at RFKHR, presented the program “Speak Truth to Power” meant for primary, secondary, High School and University students. The objective of the program is to to make student aware of the importance of Human Rights and Social Justice so that they themselves become its “defenders.”
The “Speak Truth to Power” program is a didactic program developed by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation in the tear 2000, following the publication of the book by the same title written by Kerry Kennedy, President of the Foundation. The book presents 50 interviews that took place over two years with defenders of Human Rights and Social Justice in more than 40 countries.
The Hon. Mr. Gabriel Fernandez Rojas, President of the Consejo Escolar de la Comunidad de Madrid, Mr. Oscar Davila, Director Manager of the Casa de America, Mrs. Maria Diaz de la Cebosa, President of the Fundación International Studies and CIS- The College for International Studies, and Mr. Diego Sanchez, Patron of the Fundación International Studies all addressed the assembly.
The act was attended by more than a hundred headmasters, professors and counsellors of Bilingual Institutes and schools in Madrid, who are in charge of teaching this program to students at their respective schools, as well as by a large number of students from different schools who will be studying under this program, looking at real life cases lived by people who have participated in different areas in the Defense of Human Rights, and who will receive instruction and ideas so that they themselves may one day become defenders in their own right.
