Housing

CIS finds housing in a friendly atmosphere for national and international students that come to study with us.

There are three types of housing available to our students:

-Study abroad students usually live with a Spanish family with three meals a day and full laundry service. This type of housing is highly recommended since with host country families students are able to learn more in depth about Spanish language and culture. There are no curfews and each student has their own key to access the house thus giving each person the independence they desire. The families have been visited by the Housing Director and receive student evaluations each semester to ensure high standards on board.

-We also have an agreement with several Residence Halls and some of these do have curfews. There is no food service in the Residence Halls but meal plans can be arranged with local restaurants/bars to supply 3 meals/day.

-Many European students prefer to live in apartments shared with other students. Shared Student Apartments are fully furnished-5 rooms per apartment with two bathrooms and a kitchen where students can prepare their own meals. Both individual and double rooms are available.

Madrid, the city
CIS is located in a pleasant area of Madrid with easy access to excellent and modern public transportation. Madrid is a beautiful and vibrant city with a rich cultural life and social scene. Spain's capital retains the enchantment of Spanish history and its traditions, but is also at the forefront of progress.

It is safe to say that there is no better location than Madrid to assimilate Spanish roots and understand European thought. The birthplace of "La Movida", the intense nightlife guarantees entertainment for night owls. Restaurants do not open until at least eight or nine o’clock, so the nightlife generally starts to get moving at eleven or twelve p.m. and lasts until dawn. The Madrileños, as those who belong to Madrid are called, don’t sleep, and their energy is infectious!

The vast assortment of quality restaurants will entice even the most discriminating epicurean. Visitors to Madrid can savor traditional Spanish cooking like roast suckling pig or lamb with a bottle of vintage Rioja wine in the world famous Botin’s on Calle Cuchilleros (est. 1725) or eat roast chicken with their fingers washed down with Asturian cider at Casa Mingo’s. There are literally thousands of traditional and avant-garde restaurants in every neighborhood of the city.

Transportation
Madrid has a clean, fast and efficient subway system known as the Metro. The cost of 1 ticket is 1 euro. A ten-trip ticket costs 7,40 Euros and can also be used on any bus in the city. The bus system is excellent with waiting time only a few minutes between passing buses. Taxis are easily found and inexpensive compared to most other European capital cities.

A system of local trains link Madrid with the surrounding area for day trips. Long distance trains also leave from all of the train stations in Madrid. The AVE (high speed train) connects Madrid to the south in comfort and style.

Barajas Airport is connected to the center of the city by subway, taxis, and buses. Planes leave hourly to all major cities around Europe and the world. Inexpensive round-trip tickets are now available for short trips to London, Paris, and other European destinations.

Student Activities
We usually plan several activities for the school year (this depends on the demand). Some of them could be:

• Art and Cultural Excursions to Avila and Salamanca, El Escorial, Toledo, Andalucia, Cordoba, Sevilla, Barcelona, Segovia
• A visit to Feria de Sevilla
• A visit to Fallas de Valencia
• Ski Trips
• Night Parties
• A Paintball championship
• Capea (A Bull Fight)
• Sports Days for Football, Volleyball and Basketball
• Campeonato de Paintball
